The Five Elements (Panch Tatva)

Vastu Shastra is built on the foundation of five universal elements — the Panch Tatva. Every structure, every room, every direction is governed by these elements. Understanding and balancing them is the key to a harmonious life.

Prithvi — Earth

Stability, patience and infinite patience. Represented in the centre and SW direction.

Jal — Water

Life, flow and nourishment. Associated with the North-East direction.

Agni — Fire

Energy, power and transformation. Governs the South-East direction.

Vayu — Air

Growth, movement and freshness. Associated with the North-West direction.

Akash — Space

Expansion and cosmic energy. Governs the central Brahmasthana zone.

When a building is designed in accordance with these five elements — in harmony with the Sun's energy, Earth's magnetic field, and the flow of cosmic forces — a perfectly balanced environment is created that promotes health, wealth, and happiness for all inhabitants.

Each element has a natural direction, and placing activities or rooms in alignment with the corresponding element's direction results in optimal energy flow throughout the building.
